My Local Charity ("we", "us", or "our") operates the website mylocalcharity.org. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.

We collect minimal information. Specifically:
- IP address — used only to detect your approximate city for displaying local charities. It is not stored beyond your session.
- Search queries — city names, zip codes, or charity keywords you type into the search bar. These are processed locally in your browser and not sent to our servers.
- Charity registration information — if you submit the "List Your Charity" form, we collect the details you provide (organization name, contact information, website URLs, etc.) via Formspree. See Section 4 below.
We do not collect names, email addresses, payment information, or personal data from general visitors browsing the site.
3. Geolocation & IP Address
When you visit mylocalcharity.org, we make a request to ipapi.co — a third-party IP geolocation service — to determine your approximate city. This allows us to automatically show charities near you without requiring you to type your location.
- Your IP address is sent to ipapi.co solely to determine your city and region.
- We do not store your IP address on our servers.
- Geolocation is accurate to the city level — we cannot determine your street address, neighborhood, or precise location.
- If you prefer not to use geolocation, you can manually enter any city or zip code in the search bar at any time.
ipapi.co's own privacy policy is available at ipapi.co/privacy.
For zip code lookups, we use zippopotam.us, a free public API. Your zip code query is sent to this service to look up the associated city. No personal information is transmitted.
4. Charity Registration Forms
If you submit the "List Your Charity" form at mylocalcharity.org/register.html, the information you provide is processed by Formspree (formspree.io) and delivered to our team by email. This information may include:
- Organization name, type, and description
- Contact person's name, email address, and phone number
- Website and donation page URLs
- Drop-off location addresses and hours
- Current donation needs and impact information
This information is used solely to review and approve your charity listing on My Local Charity. We do not share it with any third parties. We retain it only as long as necessary to manage your listing.

5. Donations
My Local Charity does not process, handle, or have any involvement in donations. When you click a "Donate" button on our site, you are redirected to the charity's own website and donation platform.
All payment information you enter on a charity's website is governed by that charity's privacy policy and their payment processor. We have no access to this information and no involvement in the transaction.
6. Third-Party Services
My Local Charity uses the following third-party services:
- ipapi.co — IP-based geolocation to detect your approximate city.
- zippopotam.us — ZIP code to city lookup.
- Formspree — Charity registration form processing and delivery.
- Google Fonts — Font loading (Fraunces and DM Sans). Google may log font requests per their privacy policy.
- GitHub Pages — Website hosting. GitHub may collect server logs including IP addresses per their privacy policy.
We do not use advertising networks, tracking pixels, social media buttons, or analytics tools that collect personal data.
7. Cookies
My Local Charity does not use cookies for tracking or advertising purposes. We do not set any first-party cookies. Some third-party services (such as Google Fonts or GitHub Pages) may set cookies per their own policies, but we do not control or access these.
8. Children's Privacy
My Local Charity was founded by a 12-year-old and is designed to be appropriate for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The site requires no account creation, no login, and no personal information from general visitors.
If you are under 13 and would like to submit a charity registration form, please do so with a parent or guardian's assistance and consent.
9. Your Rights
Since we collect minimal personal information, there is little to request. However:
- Access: You may request a copy of any personal information we hold about you (primarily charity registration submissions).
- Deletion: You may request deletion of any personal information you have submitted to us.
- Correction: You may request that we correct any inaccurate information.
